Dannii talks Extensions

We live in a world where more hair & beauty aesthetics are possible, this includes hair extensions. Whereas they used to be seen as something only celebrities had, they are now more achievable & affordable than you may think. With so much choice now, achieving your dream hair is perhaps not such a dream after all.

My name is Dannii & I am a Hair Extension Technician at Strands. As most hairdressers generally do, I love experimenting with my hair and from a young age this started off with colour, that perhaps didn’t always go to plan, but I always learnt from my mistakes and now, 11 years later I’ve perfected the art of colouring. My next passion became hair extensions, whether it be on my self or friends & family I was hooked. I enrolled on a course and took my extension qualification to be able to add this to my portfolio. I loved the fact I could change hair to any length or colour in a matter of hours.

Using a range of different techniques we can now more or less achieve any style, but hair extensions don’t just give you long Rapunzel length hair, they have practical uses too, such as giving you extra volume where you feel your hair could be thinning, or if you have breakage in certain areas from heat or chemical damage. Hair extensions have also never been safer, with new techniques & methods evolving all the time so they are suitable for more hair types & ages than ever before.

The majority of human hair used in wigs & extensions comes from India and China. Religious people make pilgrimages to temples such as the Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala, India, where they shave their heads in a ritual of devotion. Barbers then sell the hair on at auction, the strands which can get up to 30 inches long then go to make hair extensions & wigs. The more well known practice in England is growing and donating hair to the “little Princess trust” who make wigs for children suffering from Illness that causes them to lose their hair. Others in countries as far as India, China & across Europe, sell their hair as a way of earning a living.

So whatever your goal, call now to book in for a consultation, ask for me, Dannii and we can determine if hair extensions are for you. Together we can decide the best length, colour, and texture, if they are for a special occasion, wedding, holiday or long term. You never know you might just be supporting worthy  causes while looking your best!
